The communications regulator, Ofcom UK, has threatened to impose stiff new rules on the industry unless Mobile Network Operators (MNO) act to “sufficiently reduce consumer harm” from Bill Shocks, which can occur when a customer exceeds their Mobile Broadband data and or voice allowances.

Cable ISP Virgin Media UK has started the roll-out of its latest £110m national network upgrade (original news), which at no extra cost (assuming you choose to ignore Virgin’s recent price hike) aims to at least double its customers broadband speeds (except on their ADSL2+ based Virgin.net / Virgin National platform).

The Broadband 4 Rural North (B4RN) scheme, which aims to connect thousands of homes in northern Lancashire UK with an affordable “hyper-fast” 1Gbps (Gigabits per second) capable fibre optic ( FTTH ) broadband service via shared community involvement and funding, has hinted that the first deployment could begin this month.

The Managing Director (MD) of UK business ISP Fluidata, Piers Daniell, has predicted that the new generation of internet based TV / IPTV (television) services, which are expected to surface from several broadband providers this year ( e.g. TalkTalk TV via YouView ), could put more pressure on customer support lines because consumers have higher expectations of TV reliability.
