ISP Zen Internet has warned that businesses in the United Kingdom should “stop focusing” on the perceived need for true fibre optic (FTTP/H) broadband services, which take the fibre direct to their doorstep, because their needs can already be met by the existing but slower Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) solutions.

BT has been accused of negligence after one of its customers discovered that the national telecoms operator had made it easy for anybody to gain access to personal customer account names and add unwanted services to another user’s phone line without their permission.

New mobile operator EE (4GEE) has quietly boosted the usage allowances of its dedicated 4G (1800MHz) based Mobile Broadband packages by adding up to an extra 3GB (GigaBytes) of data to their plans.

The Greater Anglia train operator has announced that it’s working with WiFi Hotspot operator The Cloud (BSkyB) to introduce a free wireless internet service at 100 of its stations across the region (e.g. Cambridge, Norwich and Stansted Airport).

The Superfast Cornwall project, which is working with BT to make superfast broadband solutions available to at least 80% of premises in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by the end of 2014, has uploaded a video demo from its recent trial of a 10Gbps (Gigabits per second) capable “hyper-fast” fibre optic service using the latest XGPON (10G-PON) standard.

KC, the incumbent internet and phone provider for Hull and East Yorkshire (England), has successfully completed the initial roll-out of their “super-fast” 350Mbps capable and fibre optic based Lightstream broadband service to pass 15,000 local premises. It now plans to reach an extra 30,000 homes and businesses by March 2015.
