The growing use of Internet filters in the United Kingdom has claimed another innocent victim after the British Library confirmed that a man whom attempted to access an online version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet was prevented from doing so because the text contained “violent content“.

The £20m Rural Community Broadband Fund (RCBF), which aims to help premises in the most rural 5-10% of the United Kingdom gain access to superfast broadband, has allowed two bids for funding in Oxfordshire (England) to proceed (note: final approval has yet to be granted).

The European Commission (EC) has today published its annual E-Communications Household Survey of around 28,000 people across all 27 member states (1,308 were in the UK), which revealed that 61% of EU households now have broadband access and this rises to 70% in the UK (down by -1% Dec 2011).

The £41 million state aid supported Better Broadband for Norfolk project in England, which is a joint project between the government (BDUK), county council and BT, has revealed the next batch of 71 local communities that can expect an upgrade to superfast broadband (FTTC/P) technology.
