Satellite Internet, an aptly named broadband provider that makes use of the SES (ASTRA) platform, has called on local councils across the United Kingdom to spend some of the latest £250m in broadband funding on connecting the last 5% of rural areas to the Internet via Satellite instead of land lines.

A new survey of 28,000 Internet using citizens across the European Union (3290 from the UK) has revealed that 24% claim to have been prevented by their broadband ISP or mobile operator from watching videos, listening to music or using other applications of their choice, allegedly due to censorship measures or speed restrictions.

Telecoms giant BT has announced that it will create more than 1,000 new apprenticeship and graduate jobs. On top of that the operator is supporting the employer-led “Movement to Work” initiative, which aims to tackle youth unemployment by providing up to 1,500 vocational training and work experience placements over the next 18 months.

BTOpenreach has unveiled a string of “substantial price reductions” for their range of business focused Ethernet products, which includes the recently proposed plan to replace most of their Excess Construction Charges (ECC) for new Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) orders with a single connection fee of £548 +vat .
