EE UK Make 4G Mobile Broadband Roaming Possible in 14 New Countries

Thursday, Aug 21st, 2014 (10:07 am) - Score 1,211

Customers of UK mobile operator EE (4GEE) will be pleased to learn that they’ll now be able to benefit from “superfast4G (LTE) based Mobile Broadband connectivity when roaming around across an additional 14 new global destinations.

The operator first allowed 4G roaming outside of the UK in Spain and France during March 2014 and their plan is to make this service available to “all major destinations” by the end of 2014.

As part of that customers have today been told that their 4G roaming will also work in Canada, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, UAE, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland (plus South Korea should go live from tomorrow).

Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE, said:

EE already has the biggest and fastest 4G network in the UK – now we’re also allowing our customers to stay connected on 4G when they’re abroad. Our customers will benefit in 15 destinations today, with further popular travel destinations to follow in the coming months.

Whether it’s working on the move, social networking, using maps, or just finding a great place to eat in an unknown city, our customers can now enjoy the same superfast and reliable mobile experience at home and overseas.”

However data roaming can still be an expensive business, especially if you’re a data hog, with £3 getting you just 50MB of usage or £25 for 500MB in Europe. Customers can only use data on their mobile if they purchase a bundle and those on EE’s small business plans can also buy 2GB of EU roaming data for £75 +vat.

As a result your activity will no doubt remain hindered by the high cost of data, at least until the next round of EU induced price cuts that could see roaming charges being completely removed.
