The £130 million Superfast Lancashire project, which aims to make BT’s “superfast broadband” FTTC/P (24Mbps+) network available to 97% of local premises by the end of 2015 (a total of around 655,000 homes and businesses), has announced the next 10 areas to benefit from the programme.
The update, which somewhat slipped under our radar on Friday due to the mass spam of statistically focused Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) project updates (all centred around the 1 million premises passed announcement), notes that 64,000 homes and businesses in Lancashire have already benefitted from the scheme and the next phase will push this figure past 100,000 (adding another 40,000 to the total by the end of September 2014).
As usual some additional in-fill work will also be taking place, such as in the communities of Coppull and Whalley (Ribble Valley), which are almost completed (Burnley also keeps cropping up).

Lest we not forget the excellent contribution of B4RN’s separate scheme in some of the county’s most rural areas, which uses no state-aid but continues to roll-out a 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network despite facing some well document obstacles along the way (e.g. BT’s rival FTTP deployment in Dolphinholme).
