Patients and visitors to the Velindre Cancer Centre, which is the largest non–surgical cancer Hospital in Wales, can now get online via a new free WiFi wireless Internet service after 8 friends managed to raise over £44,000 in order to upgrade the facility with a little help from The Cloud (Sky).
Facing up to and dealing with cancer is one of the biggest challenges that anyone can face, thus allowing people to get online so that they can communicate with friends, family and take their minds off the bigger problem is sure to be a huge help.
Andrew Morris, Head of Fundraising at Velindre, said:
“It can be hugely frustrating for patients and visitors who cannot keep in touch with their friends, or access social media; time can drag very slowly and as patient centred care is at the heart of everything we strive to do at Velindre, this was a situation we were very keen to rectify. The fantastic support we have had from the Team Velinmanjaro group has made this possible.
The group of 8 friends, Louise Piper-Jones, Jonathan Mainwaring, Hannah Jenkins, Keith Staley, Mandy & Paul Clarke, Terry Jones and Keith Thomas climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and raised an incredible amount – over £44,000. This money has allowed us to introduce this new service, and so thousands and thousands of patients will benefit because of their fantastic efforts.”
End.
