Customers of BT’s broadband, phone and or TV bundles, which currently receive free access to the operators live BTSport TV channels, may be pleased to learn that their provider has just ensured that the top flight of English club rugby will be shown live on their service until at least the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
The agreement marks a four-year extension to the current deal, which also makes it the longest in Premiership Rugby history. The move means that BT has secured the live broadcast rights for up to 80 live matches per season from Aviva for four years starting from the 2017-18 season. Elsewhere there will also be extended highlights for all 135 matches per season from 2015-16.
John Petter, CEO of BT’s Consumer Division, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be extending our partnership with Premiership Rugby. 2015 will be an amazing year for rugby in the UK and the popularity of rugby will continue to grow. We’re delighted to be a part of this and that our customers can look forward to another six seasons of the Aviva Premiership on BT Sport.”
In addition, BTSport now has the live broadcast rights to matches from the entire Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series until the end of the 2020-21 season.
