London ISP Velocity1 has confirmed that their 1000Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has recently been expanded to cover more of Wembley, specifically 475 homes inside the Wembley Park development.
After 7 years of work Quintain, the local development company, recently completed the first stage of its £3.4 billion Wembley Park build, which added hundreds of new homes, shopping destinations and various other attractions to the area that is already centred around an iconic National Stadium.
Part of this work includes the construction of 5,000 new homes, with the first 475 beginning last summer and those are finally being completed. As part of this the ISP Velocity1 was established to deliver a true fibre optic network to local premises and now the first services in the latest development are going live.
Phillip Clapperton, Velocity 1, said:
“How many homes in the UK can get 1gb broadband? At Wembley Park 475 homes are currently being sold and all of them will have access to 1gb broadband.”
The provider claims that people who move into related homes will have the fastest domestic broadband connection in the United Kingdom, although it should be stressed that other ISPs (e.g. B4RN, Hyperoptic, Gigaclear etc.) have been offering similar 1000Mbps services, in a rapidly growing number of locations, for several years.
Furthermore BT is anticipated to launch a 1Gbps FTTP product in the very near future, while Sky Broadband and TalkTalk are also working on a new 1Gbps capable network in the city of York. A quick look at the Velocity1 website only lists residential packages with speeds that go up to 100Mbps (costs £40 per month) and even Virgin Media can beat that.
Suffice to say that the “fastest” claim has yet to be proven.
