The ITS Technology Group, which helps altnets to roll-out fibre optic connectivity and also provides its own services, has this morning announced that they’ve acquired yet another fixed wireless broadband provider in Wales by scooping up Cardiff-based Konek-T for an undisclosed sum.
Konek-T had been serving an unknown number of homes and businesses in South Wales, but the ISP has recently faced a difficult time and last month found itself having to appoint administrators (DDJ Insolvency). Sadly it’s not clear precisely what went wrong, although the state aid fuelled deployment of BT’s FTTC/P “fibre broadband” connectivity might not be helping.
Thankfully the ITS Technology Group has rescued Konek-T, including its customers, from collapse and moved them under their umbrella. The move is similar to their acquisition of another welsh wireless provider (Xwavia) at the end of last year (here), except that Konek-T has simply vanished into ITS’s fold, while Xwavia retained their brand.
Roy Shelton, Group CEO at ITS, said:
“ITS delivers connectivity to digitally deprived areas across the UK, and the addition of this network certainly adds value to this proposition. ITS already has a footprint in Llancarfan, so these assets will extend our reach in this area. As a result, ITS will be able to offer access to more business and residential customers that have been struggling with inadequate broadband speeds, as well as allowing us to focus on wholesale access to our partners.”
Apparently ITS will now begin a big network upgrade in order to improve the service for customers. Existing subscribers have been told that they “will not be charged for their services while this work is carried out.” New services, such as VoIP and IT Support for businesses, are due to surface after the upgrades have completed.
