Utility provider SSE (Southern Electric) might have today removed the popular 24 months free service offer from their standard ‘up to’ 17Mbps broadband bundles, but they’ve also introduced a new 6 months free discount on their ‘up to’ 38Mbps “Superfast Fibre” (FTTC) option.
As usual the new discount is also a double-edged sword because it masks the fact that SSE’s line rental has recently increased from £12 to £13.49 per month, which is important because the reductions are only available when you bundle broadband and phone. Never the less it’s still cheaper than most providers.
All packages include an unlimited usage allowance (the Fair Usage Policy includes Traffic Management), free connection, free wireless router and an 18 months contract with a free subscription to their Internet Security Suite for the same length of time (£2 per month thereafter).
SSE Superfast Fibre + Talk Weekend
* Download speeds of up to 38Mbps
* Inclusive weekend calls (inc. 0845 & 0870)PRICE: FREE for 6 months (£20 per month thereafter) + £13.49 line rental
SSE Ultrafast Fibre + Talk Anytime
* Download speeds of up to 76Mbps
* Inclusive calls any time, plus calls to 20 other countriesPRICE: £5 for 6 months (£20 per month thereafter) + £21 line rental with Anytime calls
The new offer will be available until 20th January 2016 (see discount terms). It’s also worth pointing out that SSE also has an ‘up to’ 76Mbps “Ultrafast Fibre Broadband” package, although for some reason they’ve stopped displaying it alongside their main packages (perhaps because not everybody can benefit from the top speeds).
