Vodafone has today reported their latest Q3 2015 results (calendar), which reveals that the new fixed broadband service has grown ever so slightly to reach 75,000 customers (up by +5K net adds vs +4K in Q2). Meanwhile their 4G UK population coverage has reached 75% (82% by Ofcom’s definition).
In fairness Vodafone’s new home broadband (Vodafone Connect) service only became a truly national proposition last month (here) and the operator hasn’t done a huge amount to promote it since then, thus it’s too early to judge their growth. At present most of those 75,000 customers are connected to business or LLU lines via third-party ISPs.
On top of that the operator has spent much of the past three months campaigning for BT to be split from control of Openreach (here), while also expanding their 3G network to a few very remote rural “notspots” (here), losing more MVNO partners (here) and dealing with a minor security breach of their customers personal data (here).
Not to mention the on-going expansion of their 4G network, which is growing its customer base at a fairly steady pace with +1.3 million subscribers added in Q3 vs +1.5m in Q2 (calendar).
At this point we should note that Vodafone’s home broadband service is also due to add a Pay TV solution, but today’s update states that this will “follow later in the 2016 financial year” (i.e. within the next 9 months because today’s results represent Q1 15/16 in financial terms). Otherwise there’s not a lot to say.
