In a surprise development Virgin Media has this afternoon decided to introduce a 6 month discount on their standalone superfast 50-200Mbps cable broadband packages, which doesn’t require customers to take out a separate phone service.
New customers who subscribe to these packages rarely see discounts, although the new offers will only be available to order until 30th December 2015.
Each package includes a free SuperHub wireless router, 12 month contract term, unlimited usage, free access to Virgin’s WiFi hotspots (e.g. London Underground Stations), free Internet security + Parental Controls, free email, free self-install with QuickStart (£49.99 if your property doesn’t have cable infrastructure) and 5GB of free online storage.

As usual this service is only available to 45-50% of the United Kingdom (mostly urban premises) where Virgin Media’s EuroDOCSIS3 cable network exists, although they are slowly expanding it out to reach 60-65% by 2020. Virgin has also discounted their other bundles, although strictly speaking the recent price hike means that these are more expensive than the prior offers and so we’re not covering those.
