During a routine check we noticed that UK ISP BT appears to have reduced some of its prices and refocused all of their home broadband products around “unlimited” usage, which has resulted in the removal of their 10GB capped ADSL2+ and the 40GB BTInfinity (FTTC) broadband packages.
The decision isn’t terribly surprising as BT’s promotional prices for their “unlimited” packages were occasional being placed lower than those of their normally cheaper capped data usage options, which may have caused some confusion for consumers.
Similarly Ofcom’s data shows that the average monthly data usage per broadband connection is now 82GB (GigaBytes), rising to 112GB on “superfast” packages, which further suggests that BT’s 10GB and 40GB options were beginning to look a bit out of place against a background of ever rising demand.
None of this is to say that BT won’t re-add a capped package again in the future, but for the time being they appear to be focused on only providing a selection of three “unlimited” usage packages, which have also benefited from a modest price reduction.
