The enterprise division of SSE Telecoms has today announced that their fibre optic network has been expanded to a further 30 of BT’s UK exchanges, which is on top of their existing 13,700km long and 232 Point of Presence (PoP) strong UK-wide fibre network.
The work forms part of Phase Two of the operator’s on-going Project Edge network expansion, which is working to ensure that many more locations and businesses across the United Kingdom can gain access to their up to 10Gbps (Gigabits per second) capable “enterprise-class” fibre optic and Ethernet network.
Apparently the latest batch of 30 Points of Presence (PoPs) will put the network within reach of a further 50,000 businesses in the following areas: Aberdeen Denburn, Aylesbury, Birmingham Midland, Bolton, Bradford, Chelmsford, Colchester, Darlington, Doncaster, Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Douglas, Harrogate, High Wycombe, Inverness, Ipswich, Leicester Montford, Lincoln, Lochnagar, Loughborough, Maidstone, Newcastle, Norwich, Oldham, Oxford, Peterborough, Rochdale, Sheffield Attercliffe, Sheffield, Stockton and York.
Colin Sempill, Managing Director of SSE Enterprise Telecoms, said:
“In 2015, we experienced a 250 percent increase in orders of our Ethernet services, demonstrating the success of our ongoing network expansion. With 30 new exchanges now live as part of Edge 2, and more to come within the next few months, organisations can now benefit from even greater access to our high quality Ethernet services, regardless of where they are in the country.”
On top of that another four BT exchanges, located in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Wokingham and Farnborough, should be added to the list by the end of Q2 2016
