Budget ISP Plusnet has followed last week’s price rise announcement (here) by offering their ‘up to’ 38Mbps FTTC based “Unlimited Fibre Broadband” service free for the first 6 months of service (£14.99 a month thereafter), although you still have to pay for line rental on top.
At this point we should highlight that the standard monthly cost of line rental from Plusnet is currently £16.99 per month, although this will rise to £17.99 from 1st September 2016. However if you pre-pay for a year in advance then you can take line rental from the monthly equivalent of £15.49 and this has been frozen (no price rises this year).
Unlimited Fibre (up to 38Mbps)
* Download speeds of up to 38Mbps
* Upload speeds of up to 1.9Mbps
* Unlimited usage
* Free wireless router (P&P £6.99)
* Parental controls (network-level)
* UK support
* 18 Month contract
As usual the package includes standard UK call charges, although you can add free evening and weekend calls for an extra +£3 per month or free anytime calls for an extra +£6 or free anytime and 300 minutes of international calls for +£7.50.
Take note that those in the final 9% or so of predominantly rural and some disadvantaged urban areas may be charged several pounds more for the service because they reside outside of the ISPs “low cost area“. For example, the standard £14.99 broadband price for the above package would become £22.49.
