UK ISP Vispa has announced that new subscribers to their 250Mbps capable CityWireless broadband network, which is available to several urban and rural parts of Cheshire (England), will benefit from a price cut after the provider joined the Government’s “2Mbps for all” rural broadband subsidy (USC) scheme.
Prices for CityWireless usually start at just £19.95 inc. VAT per month for a basic 10Mbps download (2Mbps upload) service with a peak-time usage allowance of 100GB (unlimited off-peak), free wireless router, static IP address and 18 month contract term (installation costs from £149). By comparison their top 60Mbps (10Mbps upload) home package offers 500GB usage for £49.95.
The good news is that Vispa looks to have joined several other alternative network ISPs by becoming approved for use with the Universal Service Commitment subsidy (here), which is focused upon helping an estimated 300,000+ UK premises that might not benefit from the Broadband Delivery UK roll-out of “superfast” (24Mbps+) fixed line broadband services.
The scheme offers grants worth up to around £350, which can be used to reduce the initial cost of having the service installed and Vispa has confirmed that this will result in the removal of their £149 installation fee. However the ISP has yet to officially launch the offer on their website, although it should go live soon.
The network itself covers large parts of Warrington, Chester, Northwich, Rainow, Strines, Gawsworth and Macclesfield, among other places.
