KCOM Detail Fibre Broadband Roll-out for 6500 Premises in West Hull

East Yorkshire telecoms operator KCOM has today unveiled the next phase of their “Lightstream” fibre optic (FTTP/C) broadband network roll-out, which will reach more than 6,500 homes and businesses in Hull’s Willerby Road and surrounding streets later this year.

So far the vast majority of KCOM’s deployment to 150,000 premises (78,000 have already been reached), which aims to complete by December 2017, is being catered for via their 250Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) network that delivers a pure fibre optic line directly to homes. Around 8% (c.12,000 premises) of their planned roll-out will also be covered via the slower ‘up to’ 75Mbps Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) service.

The latest phase being announced today focuses predominantly upon parts of West Hull, including more than 220 streets in Hedon and Preston that will be upgraded before the end of 2016. The work will start in early September 2016, with more than 2,000 premises going live in streets including Lomond Road, Brooklands Road and Manor Road.

After that the remaining 4,500 premises will follow from the end of October 2016, with the deployment focusing upon streets including Calvert Road, Priory Road and Wold Road. The full and rather extensive list has been pasted at the bottom of this article.

Cathy Phillips, KCOM’s Chief Marketing Officer, said:

“Since we increased our investment in fibre broadband earlier this year we’ve picked up the pace of our rollout and are announcing new Lightstream locations every month. Our Willerby Road rollout plan is the largest we’ve announced to date and we’re delighted to be bringing superfast speeds to thousands of homes in the area during the months ahead.

We’d encourage customers living in the area and in Hedon and Preston to register their interest in Lightstream on our website to be among the first to be notified when installation appointments are available.”

The announcement comes only a few short weeks after KCOM announced that more than 5,000 properties in the Bricknell Avenue area were due to be upgraded by the end of 2016 and since then 3,200 have already gone live, with 600 customers choosing to take the service.

By completion KCOM’s total capital investment in installing fibre will have reached approximately £60 million.
