Customers of BTBusiness may today welcome the news that the ISP has adopted an ‘up to’ 76Mbps capable FTTC “Infinity” broadband speed as their “new entry level for its business fibre,” which means that existing subscribers on their ‘up to’ 38Mbps package have gained a free upgrade.
Mind you it should be pointed out that the speeds received will still be dependent upon the quality and length of the copper line that runs between Openreach’s (BT) local street cabinet and your office.
Many people will at least benefit from speeds of greater than 38Mbps and quite a few should get close to the headline 76Mbps, but equally if you couldn’t get near to 38Mbps before on their Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) technology then you’re unlikely to see a big change after the upgrade.
Mike Tomlinson, BT’s MD of UK SME, said:
“We’re helping UK SMEs work smarter and faster in the office – and on the move – as they increasingly embrace cloud-based services. By making 76Mbps our new standard business fibre broadband speed we are ensuring brilliant connectivity at a speed that will enable them to grow and thrive. Add to this our superfast 4G mobile network and our customers really are better connected than ever before.”
The upgrades began in September 2016 and the change to adopt 76Mbps as the default entry-level package was implemented on 1st October 2016. As part of the move they’ve begun offering unlimited BTBusiness Infinity broadband to new customers for a reduced monthly cost if they sign up before 28th November 2016 (i.e. from £14 +vat a month [normally £31], plus £15.90 +vat line rental).
