Art Students Give Virgin Media’s Cable Broadband Cabinets Some Colour

Several of Virgin Media’s street cabinets in Bournemouth (Dorset, England), specifically those around the Square and opposite The Old Fire Station in Holdenhurst Road, have been given a “colourful” makeover by local artist Kev Munday. As always with art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The project was supported by both the operator and Third Wall Productions, which is a creative events group of third-year students at Arts University Bournemouth (AUD). Meanwhile Virgin Media’s Regional Director, Maurice Daw, said he hopes that the extra dash of colour “will improve people’s experience of the town centre.”

We suspect that the painting work won’t appeal to everybody and those people will at least be glad to know that the project is a “one-off change.” Mind you it’s not only Virgin Media that occasionally rakes out the odd artist to give their cabinets a new lick of paint, with both Openreach (BT) and KCOM having witnessed similar experiments (here, here, here and here).
