Openreach (BT) and Crimestoppers are offering their usual reward of up to £1,000 for any information leading to the arrest and subsequent successful convictions of anybody involved with an attack on the operator’s network that occurred in the large Scottish village of Tweedbank.
The incident, which took place around a manhole between 12.00am and 2:00am on Wednesday 26th July near Galafoot Bridge on the A6091, caused serious damage to Openreach’s network that left local homes and businesses without access to broadband and phone services until the following day. At this stage it’s unclear whether the intent was vandalism or copper cable theft.
Bernie Auguste, Openreach GM of Security Services, said:
“This incident has impacted on the day to day life of the people in the Kingsknowes Bridge and Tweedbank areas. We are working closely with Police in Scotland to bring the people responsible for this crime to justice. We have deployed additional security enhancements within the area, but we also need your help.
Please be vigilant and if you saw anything suspicious on or around the time of the incident then please contact Crimestoppers or the Police.”
As usual the operator is encouraging anybody with information on this incident to contact them anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through the Anonymous Online Form.
