ISP Hyperoptic, which is rolling out their 1Gbps (Gigabit per second) capable Fibre-to-the-Building (FTTP/B) broadband network to around 500,000 UK homes and offices in 20 cities across the United Kingdom, has today launched a cheaper package that’s specifically targeted at students.

New and upgrading 4G customers of EE’s Pay Monthly mobile plans (both SIM-Only and those with a bundled iOS (Apple) or Android handset) will soon also be able to benefit from 6 months of free Apple Music membership. The service will of course also work on iPad, Apple TV, Mac and PC.

Sky Broadband, after taking a fair break from big price promotions, has now returned to offer their ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited broadband package free for 12 months (£10 thereafter), although you still have to add Line Rental from £17.40 per month. On top of that they’ve thrown in a £75 Prepaid MasterCard.

Over the next few weeks students in higher education from across the United Kingdom will slowly begin returning to temporary accommodation, which is usually nearby to their chosen college or university. Some will get broadband by default (campus connection), but others will need to choose their own ISP.

Selkirk-based Internet provider TenTel will today introduce a new offer that cuts the price of their ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited and 40GB usage allowance packages in half for the first six months of service. Both packages also require you to take line rental at £15.99 per month, but they only apply a 6 month contract term.

Internet provider TalkTalk has begun offering their ‘up to’ 38Mbps capable “Superfast Fibre Broadband” (FTTC) package at half price for its entire contract term (£8.75 per month instead of £17.50), but don’t forget to add line rental from the equivalent of £15.93 a month when pre-paid for 1 year (£17.70 as standard).

UK ISP Andrews and Arnold (AAISP) has decided to make their ‘up to’ 80Mbps (20Mbps upload) capable FTTC broadband product the standard for all Home VDSL connections and at the same price point as their old ‘up to’ 40Mbps (10Mbps) VDSL service (i.e. no extra cost for 80Mbps).

UK ISP Plusnet has started offering their top ‘up to’ 76Mbps FTTC “Unlimited Fibre Extra” broadband service at £5 per month for the first six months (£19.99 thereafter). On top of that their standard ‘up to’ 17Mbps product is now free for the first 12 months and includes £50 Cashback.

New and existing Sky TV (Sky Broadband) customers who sign-up for Sky Sports are being offered the option to get the Sky Fibre Broadband (‘up to 38Mbps FTTC) service “free forever“, alternatively they can opt for a £10 per month discount off the normally £20 per month Sky Fibre Unlimited service.

Sky Broadband appears to have sharply reduced the price of their 50-940Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) based “Ultra Fibre Optic” (UFO) broadband packages in the city of York (North Yorkshire), which is still being jointly rolled out alongside partners TalkTalk and Cityfibre.

Internet provider BT has cut the monthly price of their standard (up to 17Mbps ADSL2+) Unlimited Broadband package to just £5 per month and their superfast (up to 38Mbps FTTC) Unlimited Infinity 1 service has also been reduced to £10 per month. New customers will also get a BT Reward Card worth between £50 and £100.

Budget ISP Plusnet has followed last week’s price rise announcement (here) by offering their ‘up to’ 38Mbps FTTC based “Unlimited Fibre Broadband” service free for the first 6 months of service (£14.99 a month thereafter), although you still have to pay for line rental on top.

Mobile operator FreedomPop, which entered the UK market last year by offering a free 4G mobile SIM with 200MB of data, 200 texts and 200 minutes, has today added a new paid SIM that gives subscribers unlimited calls, texts and 10GB of Mobile Broadband data for just £9.99 per month with no contract.

The broadband Internet division of high street retailer John Lewis has today followed up its recent price tweaks by introducing a 6 months free period on their unlimited ‘up to’ 17Mbps package and offering 3 months free alongside their two superfast (up to 38Mbps or 76Mbps) FTTC options.

New customers will also get a BT Reward Card worth between £100 and £125.
