Alternative internet provider Airband, which has deployed both a Full Fibre (FTTP) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) based broadband network to cover rural parts of England and North Wales, has followed up this week’s departure of its CEO (here) by announcing a new “operating model” and further redundancies to support their “next phase of growth“.

Alternative broadband operator AllPoints Fibre Networks (APFN), which is backed by Fern Trading, has today announced that Mark Walker has been appointed to be the company’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). At the same time their existing Managing Director, Ronan Kelly, will be leaving at the end of May to pursue a new opportunity.

Network analyst firm Streetwave has today published the results from a new study, which compared real-world mobile network (4G, 5G) coverage and mobile broadband performance across the 12 Scottish councils that have commissioned surveys. Glasgow tops the tables, while Argyll and Bute sit at the bottom.

The CEO of BT Group, Allison Kirkby, is reportedly set to revive the BT Mobile brand next week for consumers alongside a new “Brilliant Things” slogan and major advertising campaign. The move is expected to mark another step back from the telecoms and broadband giants prior strategy of turning EE into the group’s “flagship brand for our consumer customers“.

The Swansea Crown Court (SCC) has sentenced a 37-year-old man to 16-months in custody (suspended for 2 years) after he was found guilty of conducting “targeted attacks” against Ogi’s full fibre (FTTP) broadband network in Pembrokeshire during the start of 2024, which left nearby homes and businesses disconnected for several days.

The telecoms regulator has this morning opened a new investigation into BT, which will examine whether the information they provided in relation to a range of data – concerning the experience of customers who have entered into an agreement or placed an order for fixed phone and broadband services from EE and Plusnet – was accurate.

Internet provider BT has today published the biannual (April 2026) progress update on their delivery of Ofcom’s somewhat limited 10Mbps Universal Service Obligation (USO) for broadband. The provider has so far helped to build a USO connection to over 9,089 premises (up from 8,553 in Oct 2025) – using FTTP, with 461 further builds in-progress (up sharply from 186).

Broadband ISP and mobile operator EE (BT) has today launched an upgraded version of their existing ‘Scam Guard‘ add-on, which is a network-level security defence that was first launched in July 2024 and has already stopped 169 million scam and spam attempts (here). The hope is that the upgraded add-on will “prevent at least twice as many scams” over the next 12-months.

The government’s Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, has revealed that – regardless of the outcome from their current consultation on a proposed internet Social Media ban for children under the age of 16 (here) – they will still “impose some form of age or functionality restrictions” even if they stop short of a full ban.
