Nokia claims to have moved closer to turning multi-gigabit speed capable 5G mmWave broadband for homes into a reality by developing a new type of “very high gain antenna” with a “360 Field of View,” which they say can overcome at least some of the usual signal propagation issues.

CityFibre UK and their local civil engineering partner, Granemore Group, have today announced a second expansion of their original £30m rollout in the Cambridgeshire city of Peterborough, which has already put their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network within reach of 60,000 premises.

Broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which is deploying a new gigabit-capable full fibre network across parts of 43 UK towns and cities, has launched an additional support function for new business customers. Each customer will now be assigned a named advisor so that they receive a more personal service and timely updates on their installations.

A complaint by rival UK mobile operator giffgaff has resulted in the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) banning a website ad for VOXI – the MVNO sub-brand for Vodafone – over “misleading” price claims, which centres around the way they advertised their 12GB data (mobile broadband) plan for £10 per month.

It never rains, but it pours. Gigaclear’s state aid backed rollout of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in Essex, which forms part of the wider Superfast Essex (SFE) project, looks set to suffer another delay due to issues of “contractor resource, the Covid-19 pandemic, Brexit and the lack of availability of cabinets.”

Budget UK broadband ISP TalkTalk has today officially signed a contract with pay TV solutions provider Netgem, which will see the provider launch a new “TV 4K” product for their 4.2 million customers that will be powered by the Netgem TV platform and an apparently “frictionless ‘end to end’ operating model.”

Business UK ISP MLL Telecom has won a 10-year managed network services contract with East Sussex County Council (ESCC), which is valued at over £20m and will see them replace the existing Link Consortium this year and streamline the procurement of a wide range of Full Fibre managed network services.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has hit business broadband ISP Colt Technology Services with a small fine of £15,000 over their failure to provide complete information in response to a statutory information request, which was first requested last year as part of the recent Wholesale Fixed Telecoms Market Review 2021 (WFTMR).

The Prysmian Group, which specialises in the production of telecoms cables, has signed a 3-year extension deal to support Openreach’s (BT) national £15bn UK rollout of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network to reach 25 million premises by December 2026. They’re also testing a new installation method.

The West Sussex County Council (WSCC) has, having decided not to wait any longer for the UK Government to solve the problem, moved to “ensure that all newly-built homes” have essential “full fibre” broadband services “ready for homeowners when they move in,” which it will do by developing new planning “guidance“.

The Fastershire project has revealed that UK ISP Gigaclear’s rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Herefordshire is suffering from “delivery challenges,” which without “significant additional resources” could make it difficult to reach up to 2,324 of the planned premises.

BT (BT Mobile) has apologised and refunded one of their UK Mobile customers after their system informed him that “there won’t be any charges to switch your service to another mobile provider,” only to later hit him with a bill of £234.97 after having done exactly that. Customer support then refused to help, until we got involved.

Wireless UK broadband ISP and Voice-over-IP (VoIP) provider VoIP Unlimited has suffered connectivity problems again after being hit by a second “large scale” Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assault, which began yesterday and follows a similar attack that occurred last month (here).
