One of TalkTalk’s TV adverts has been pulled after the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) found it to be incorrect, which occurred because the connection speeds referenced in the broadcast’s voice-over did not match the speeds being promoted in the broadband provider’s on-screen text.

A few customers with G.fast based hybrid fibre “ultrafast broadband” (100Mbps+) ISP lines have this week noticed a modest boost to their download speeds after a resync, which appears as if it could be associated to an interesting change with the operator’s spectrum frequency allocation (band plan) for the service.

The FibreNation project, which was setup last year by budget ISP TalkTalk and aspires to rollout a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to 3 million UK premises, has today signed a “multi-million pound” partnership with civil engineering firm Makehappen Group to help support its “UK-wide” deployment.

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) ISP Wildanet, which is working to extend their broadband network to remote rural premises in parts of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and possibly South Wales, has announced a new strategic partnership with the Connectus Group in order to support new IP services for businesses in Cornwall.

Openreach (BT) has confirmed that their new Single Order Generic Ethernet Access (SOGEA / SOGFast) product, which enables consumers to buy a standalone FTTC “fibre broadband” (VDSL2 or G.fast) line from an ISP without the voice (phone) service, has now entered Early Market Deployment and published revised prices.

The state aid supported Better Broadband for Oxfordshire (BBO) partnership, which has worked with Openreach (BT) and Building Digital UK to extend the reach of FTTC/P based “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) networks to pass 97% of local premises, has just launched a new coverage map tool.

After yesterday’s Sky Broadband ISP news (here), which saw them soft launch a new range of ultrafast broadband packages, it’s worth noting that some of the provider’s Sky Q customers also appear to be receiving a new Sky Q Booster style device, which is essentially a WiFi extender for your home (set to form part of a new Sky WiFi Guarantee).

A few of Shell Energy’s UK broadband ISP customers, seemingly including some of those who were previously with First Utility before the recent rebrand, complain that they have been hit with letters from Debt Collectors after the provider appeared to stop taking automatic payments via established Direct Debits.

The Dumfries & Galloway Police have confirmed that a fire, which midday yesterday burned down BT’s Auchenmalg exchange in Scotland, also knocked out telephones, broadband (ADSL but not FTTC) and prevented fixed line calls to emergency services for those in the surrounding area. It could take “several days” to fix.

The long awaited launch of UK ISP Sky Broadband’s (Comcast) new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and G.fast based “Ultrafast Broadband” (145Mbps and 285Mbps average speed) packages looks to be imminent and one of our readers was able to grab a screenshot of the pricing, which is not yet showing for everyone.

“If it’s not Three, it’s not real 5G” said Three UK this morning (here) when promoting the launch of their new 5G based ultrafast mobile broadband network. In response rival operator EE (BT) is reported to have lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over the slogan, which they say is “misleading“.

Existing UK customers on cable ISP Virgin Media’s ultrafast broadband and TV network are being “exclusively” offered the option of a new 4G (EE MVNO) Virgin Mobile “Family Plan,” which offers discounts for multiple SIMs and additional parental controls to help manage internet access.

Macquarie Infrastructure (MIRA / MEIF 6 Fibre) has today confirmed that they’ve finalised their £627m acquisition of Hull and East Riding’s (East Yorkshire) incumbent broadband ISP KCOM. The new owner intends to expand the provider’s “full fibre” (FTTP) network, hopefully starting with the c.9,000 that have been missed.

Three UK (Hutchison 3G UK) will today join EE and Vodafone by confirming that their new 5G ultrafast mobile broadband network has finally gone live, starting in busy parts of London with a £35 home broadband ISP alternative. The initial plan is to cover 25 towns and cities by the end of 2019 and deliver “at least 2x faster” speeds.

The £442m (public and private investment) Digital Scotland (DSSB) project, which has been working with BT (Openreach) to rollout “superfast broadband” to poorly served areas, is to extend Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) UK ISP technology to cover a further 6,000 premises thanks to a reinvestment of £17.8m.

Anybody lucky enough to be within reach of Hyperoptic’s Gigabit capable FTTP / FTTB broadband network, which at present covers about 500,000 UK premises across 39 UK “Hyper Cities“, will be pleased to know that they’re boosting both the download and upload speeds of their entry-level package.

A new survey of 1,000 broadband customers, conducted by Which?, has revealed that 40% had been with the same ISP for 10 years and only 15% had been with their provider for less than 2 years (likely to reflect recent switchers). The reasons for this tended to vary between users of BT, Sky Broadband, TalkTalk and Virgin Media.
