A new report from Audit Scotland, which works to ensure that public money in Scotland is spent correctly, has found that the £410m Digital Scotland roll-out programme with BT has achieved its initial coverage target. But delivering 95% “fibre broadband” coverage by December 2017 “will be more challenging.”

Mobile operator EE has launched a new range of pay monthly 4GEE Max plans, which promise subscribers the “fastest” 4G based Mobile Broadband speeds, inclusive access to the BT Sport TV App, bigger data caps (up to 40GB) and the ability to use their allowances to “roam like home” when abroad in the EU.

Over the next few weeks students in higher education from across the United Kingdom will slowly begin returning to temporary accommodation, which is usually nearby to their chosen college or university. Some will get broadband by default (campus connection), but others will need to choose their own ISP.

Ofcom has published a summary of responses to their recent consultation on the introduction of a new Universal Service Obligation, which would ensure that everyone can get a broadband speed of 10Mbps by 2020. But ISPs have warned that funding this via an industry levy would be “anti-competitive“.
