Broadband ISP 1310 (“thirteen-ten“), which offers full fibre services via Openreach’s national network and is also building its own FTTP network across parts of Hampshire (England), has this morning announced that they’ve acquired UK communications provider TxRx Communications Ltd to accelerate growth and broaden their services.

The perhaps tediously named telecoms infrastructure provider Altnets, which supplies things like optical fibre cable and active equipment to UK FTTP broadband builders, has announced that they’ve been shortlisted as a finalist for the “Growth Business of the Year” category in the Lloyds Bank British Business Excellence Awards 2023.

American credit rating agency Fitch has downgraded TalkTalk’s Long-Term Issuer Default Rating to B- from B and put the UK broadband ISP on Rating Watch Negative (RWN). The move follows recent confirmation that the internet provider, under pressure from its debts, is to be broken up and sold off in pieces (here).

The wholesale division of broadband ISP TalkTalk has this week announced that they’ve signed a new agreement with business provider Gamma Communications, which will extend their existing “25-year partnership” to run for another three years until at least April 2026.

The administrators for troubled UK network operator Broadway Partners (Broadway Broadband), which had been building fixed wireless and full fibre (FTTP) ISP networks across rural parts of Scotland and Wales, have published their first report and revealed that several interested parties have bid for the business.

Mobile operator Three UK has today reported their latest results to 30th June 2023, which among other things reveals that their 5G based mobile broadband network is now live across more than 4,400 sites (up from 4,250 at the end of 2022) in over 610 towns and cities – achieving 61% outdoor population coverage (up from just 60%).

Network operator Neos Networks, which operates one of the fastest growing and highest capacity business fibre networks in the UK – spanning 34,000km, 550 exchanges and 676 Points of Presence (PoPs), has today launched its new national 400Gbps Optical Wavelength services across 26 data centres (they have a total of 90 on-net).

The High Court has thrown out a “fanciful” legal challenge by EE (BT) against Virgin Media (VMO2), which last year (here) accused the UK operator of having migrated customers away from their then EE powered Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) platform – Virgin Mobile – before the agreement had been concluded.

Broadband, phone and mobile giant BT Group (inc. Openreach, Plusnet and EE) has this morning announced that it has chosen Allison Kirkby, the current President & CEO of telecommunications multinational operator Telia Company in Sweden since early 2020, to replace Philip Jansen in the role of CEO.

A new report highlights how a £330m revolving credit facility that matures next November, £685m worth of debt maturing in February 2025, higher borrowing costs and last year’s failure to agree a £3bn takeover by Virgin Media (here) has left broadband ISP TalkTalk with few options, and a break-up of the business is now expected.

International Public Partnerships Limited (INPP), the listed infrastructure investment company that is linked to investor Amber Infrastructure, has revealed that it is in the process of finalising the sale of their remaining stake in alternative network provider Airband.

The BT Group has published a rather limited Q1 FY24 (quarterly) trading update to June 2023, which includes very few of the usual details but does reveal that Openreach’s roll-out of a full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network (coverage) grew by 718,000 UK premises in Q1 to total 11 million (up from 702k last quarter).

Broadband ISP and mobile giant Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) have published their Q2 2023 results, which saw their fixed broadband base fall by -15,300 in the quarter to total 5,667,300 (vs 28.8k added in Q1) and the operator confirm earlier reports (here) of 2,000 job cuts. But they also accelerated their nextfibre FTTP reach by 175,500 premises.

The ITS Technology Group, which operates 36 wholesale full fibre broadband and Ethernet networks (aka – Faster Britain) across urban parts of the United Kingdom for businesses and ISPs, has been approved as a supplier on the Crown Commercial Service’s (CCS) Network Services 3 (NS3) framework.

CityFibre, which is rolling out a 10Gbps capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the UK, has published their annual accounts to the end of 2022 and revealed that their losses nearly doubled. But their network coverage also doubled to 2.2 million homes (RFS) and live consumer connections surged to 174k (up from 61k).

Several key deployments of gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband networks across the United Kingdom are likely to be impacted after the Makehappen Group (website offline due to a bad SSL certificate), which is a civil engineer firm, fell into administration this week and effectively put 165 staff out of a job.

Alternative network operator Freedom Fibre is reportedly exploring a possible acquisition of struggling provider VXFIBER, which alongside subsidiary and ISP LilaConnect has recently had to cut jobs (here) and pause its UK rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network.
