Broadband ISP Airband, which previously aimed to cover 400,000 UK premises in rural areas via a mix of fixed wireless access (FWA) and full fibre (FTTP) networks by 2026, has finally published their company accounts – over 2 months late – and given context to the recent redundancies and build pauses.

Sources have indicated to ISPreview that the BT Group are in the process of reviewing the BT Local Business (BTLB) division, which currently reflects a regional network of BT-backed independent businesses that help to service and support customers at a more local level. Internet service provider No One, which typically sells broadband packages via both Openreach and CityFibre’s national networks, have notified residential customers of their decision to “partner up” with Home Telecom, which is a subsidiary of the Telecom Acquisitions (TAL) group where TalkTalk holds a controlling stake.

The CCO of the Complete Technology Group (CTG), Kevin Monaghan, has criticised today’s Spring Budget 2024 announcement for both failing to “crackdown” on broadband ISPs “inflicting substantial mid-contract price hikes” on consumers and not announcing any new provisions to help upgrade digital infrastructure.

Budget internet provider TalkTalk has today announced the appointment of Susie Buckridge as the CEO of their consumer business. The previous CEO, Adam Dunlop, will be “stepping down … to pursue other opportunities outside the group” – Adam was promoted to the position in March 2023 and retained it during the group’s demerger (here).

UK ISP Virgin Media Business (VMO2) has launched a new “Spring Sale” to attract new small business customers, which essentially offers 8 months half price on their 800Mbps and 1Gbps packages on a 24-month contract or 6 months half price on 400Mbps and 600Mbps.

City-focused ISP and network operator Hyperoptic, which has already extended their full fibre (FTTP / B) broadband network to cover “more than” 1.4 million UK homes in parts of 64 UK towns and cities, is reportedly attempting to raise up to £500m of additional capital in order to continue their network expansion.

Horsham-based Telecom Acquisitions (TAL Group), which is a holding company for several familiar UK consumer ISP brands (e.g. Home Telecom, Fleur and Eclipse Broadband), has revealed that over the past 15 months they’ve grown to total 100,000 customers and added 22,000 residential broadband users in the last quarter alone.

The LCR Connect network, which is a £32m joint venture that has rolled out a new 214km long full-fibre (broadband and Ethernet) network across much of the Liverpool City Region, has today become fully operational and made multi-gigabit speed internet connections available to more than 28,000 businesses.

Broadband ISP and mobile giant VMO2 (Virgin Media and O2) has today published their Q4 2023 results, which suggests that their full fibre (FTTP) coverage via nexfibre has grown to add another c.299,000 premises (up from 251k in Q3) and Virgin’s fixed broadband base slowed its growth to 5,717,600 (up by 9.5k in Q4 vs 40.8k in Q3).

The CEO of nexfibre, Rajiv Datta, has revealed in a new interview with the CEO of ISP Zen Internet, Richard Tang, that they intend to roll-out their full fibre (FTTP) broadband network to “more homes in 2024 than any [other] altnet” and will shortly pass 1 million homes. But Virgin Media (VMO2) remains their only ISP, for now.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), which represents some of the UK’s alternative broadband networks, has helped to setup a new Infrastructure Sharing Group (ISG) to ensure that the rollout of full fibre (FTTP) is “not held back by inconsistencies in the availability of Openreach physical infrastructure“.
