As fibre optic network operator CityFibre continues its drive to reduce costs and boost coverage growth, such as via mergers and acquisitions (here), the news starting to reach us today is that they’ve also taken the decision to “pause” more of their full fibre (FTTP) broadband contracts with UK build partners (contractors).

CityFibre, which is busy rolling out a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the UK, has today celebrated reaching the £100m in revenue milestone in 2023. The operator also confirmed that their network now covers 3.5 million premises (3.2m Ready for Service) and has 337,000 live customer connections.

Mobile network operator and ISP Vodafone UK has now, after previously announcing that they were retiring both their old c.35-38Mbps Fibre 1 (FTTC / VDSL2) and related Full Fibre 1 (FTTP) home broadband packages for new customers (not existing subscribers), said this was done in error. But the related Social Tariff is still missing.

Following last year’s trial, Yayzi Broadband, which mainly sells packages via Cityfibre’s national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, has today officially launched their new “highly affordable” 2.5Gbps symmetrical speed broadband service to consumers across the country. A new 1.2Gbps tier has also launched.

The CMO of full fibre operator CityFibre, Dan Ramsay, has today told the CEO of ISP Zen Internet, as part of a new interview, that they expect that the c.100 alternative broadband networks in the UK market today to eventually become one single operator. Ramsay separately denied that there had ever been talks of a merger with Virgin Media (VMO2).

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has announced that their £50m project to deploy a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the northern city of Newcastle (Tyne and Wear), which first began at the end of 2019 (here), has now covered 50,000 premises in the city and rising.

Hampshire-based network builder and gigabit broadband ISP, toob, which is both rolling out its own full fibre (FTTP) network and also sharing some of CityFibre’s similar infrastructure in parts of South England, has today announced a number of related expansions into Waterlooville (own build) and Chichester & Bognor Regis (City Fibre).

Network operator CityFibre has announced that they’ve completed their project to deploy a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network across the Berkshire (England) town of Slough. The new network is now ‘Ready for Service’ across almost 42,000 homes, or about 80% of local premises.

Openreach (BT) are expecting to reach a record peak quarterly build rate on their new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network of 1 million premises passed in Q4 FY24 (i.e. end of March 2024), which is up from the 860K seen in Q2 (Sept 2023). Commercial build costs are also said to still be below £300 per premises.

CityFibre has announced that they’ve completed their £15 million project to deploy a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network across the seaside town of Lowestof in Suffolk (England), which originally began during the spring of 2020 and has now covered nearly 30,000 premises (RFS).

Rural broadband ISP Wessex Internet has today announced that they’ve entered the roll-out phase of their £14m state aid supported Project Gigabit broadband contract for the New Forest area (Lot 27.01) of Hampshire (England), which will see them extend a full fibre (FTTP) network to “around” 10,500 hard-to-reach premises.

Network operator CityFibre has informed ISPreview that their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has just passed 3.37 million UK premises (3m of which are ‘Ready for Service’ by an ISP), which is up from 3 million (2.6m RFS) at the end of August 2023.

Network operator CityFibre has announced that they’ve completed their £51m project to deploy a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network across the city of Southend-on-Sea (Essex), which originally began in 2019 and has now covered over 70,000 premises (RFS).

The UK telecoms, media and internet content regulator, Ofcom, has today introduced new guidelines that will effectively only allow broadband ISPs to use terms like “fibre” and “full-fibre” on their websites, and in contracts, if their network brings fibre optic cables all the way to your home (i.e. FTTP / FTTH).

Network operator CityFibre has announced that they’ve managed to reach a new landlord agreement (wayleave) with the Newark and Sherwood District Council in Nottinghamshire, England. The deal will enable them to roll-out their full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover an additional 500 homes in the area.
