Manchester-based UK ISP Telcom, which has active plans to roll-out a gigabit-capable “full fibre” and broadband network to cover various homes and businesses across the North West of England and Midlands, has acquired the Yorkshire-based infrastructure firm SDH Project Services for an undisclosed sum.

Poole-based ISP Juice Broadband, which offers a mix of “full fibre” (FTTP) and wireless internet access services to homes and businesses around southern Dorset, has responded to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation by giving all of their existing residential customers “unlimited” free UK landline and mobile calls.

The Government of Jersey (English Channel Island) and Digital Jersey, an economic development agency and industry association, has reached an agreement with local telecoms operators (JT, Sure and Homenet) that will see all “full fibre” broadband lines on the island being speed boosted to symmetrical 1Gbps “at no extra cost.”

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has officially chosen UK ISP Virgin Media to deliver on their Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) project, which aims to deploy “up to” 2,700km of new Gigabit speed fibre network to serve 1,700 public sector sites across the city-region (up from the 1,300 originally proposed).

The ITS Technology Group (its.), which operates a number of wholesale fibre optic and hybrid wireless broadband ISP networks across parts of the UK, has launched a new programme called ‘Faster Britain’ that aims to help the deployment of gigabit-capable broadband networks through closer collaboration with their partners.

The FTTHCouncil Europe has today announced that their annual conference on full fibre broadband connectivity, which was this year due to be held between 21st and 23rd April 2020 in Berlin (Germany), has been significantly delayed to the end of the year as a result of rising concern over the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19.

Some 100 homes in the tiny rural village of Dadford in Buckinghamshire (England) have finally gained access to “superfast broadband” speeds of 30-50Mbps, which occurred after UK ISP Voneus were able to extend their Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network across the community, with a little help from the local School.

The UK Fibre Connectivity Forum (UKFCF) is today “calling on” the property sector (house builders etc.) to work with network builders, operators and broadband ISPs to help deliver on the Government’s “gigabit-capable” ambitions by 2025, not least by getting infrastructure to where it’s needed and driving efficiencies.

The Leeds City Council in Yorkshire has today signed a new £20.3m partnership with BT (Openreach), which will see the latter build a new local “full fibre” network to connect hundreds of schools, NHS and other public sector sites across the city. A new fund will also be setup to support community broadband initiatives.

Cityfibre has announced that they’ve begun their £25m project to roll-out a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network across the District of Adur and Borough of Worthing in West Sussex, which is being supported by UK ISP partner Vodafone (with TalkTalk expected to follow later).

The Brighton and Hove City Council (BHCC) in East Sussex has agreed to invest £1.66m into a new 3 mile long fibre optic ring network in the centre of Brighton, which will be used to connect up key public sector sites in the city centre with the Brighton Digital Exchange (BDX) and a 5G mobile test bed at New England House.

Mobile operator Three UK, which from the end of this month will have expanded their new ultrafast 5G mobile (mobile broadband) network to cover 65 new locations (here), has signed a new nationwide backhaul capacity deal to harness Cityfibre’s growing full fibre network in order to fuel their new service.

The Colchester Borough Council (CBC) in Essex appears to be in the process of approving a proposal from Swedish operator VXFIBER, which is looking to invest £10m in order to build a new gigabit-capable “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband ISP network that will eventually cover most of the town (homes and businesses).

Cityfibre has secured the contract to roll-out a new “full fibre” (Dark Fibre) network to connect 170 public sector sites (e.g. schools, libraries and offices) across the West Midlands city of Wolverhampton. The deal is being supported by £4.9m of public funding under the UK Gov’s Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) scheme.
