Budget ISP TalkTalk has confirmed that they are in “discussions” with Infracapital over a plan to jointly create an independent company, with a total investment of around £1.5bn, that could provide 1Gbps ultrafast “full fibre” (FTTH/P) broadband to over 3 million premises in mid-sized UK towns and cities.

At present if an ISP feels that the Dynamic Line Management (DLM) profile for a UK Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC / VDSL2) based broadband line needs a reset then it usually requires an Openreach engineer visit, but progress is being made on a new remote reset solution.

BT has released their latest results to the end of 2017 (Q4 calendar), which saw their retail UK broadband ISP base add 35K subscribers to total 9,342,000 (vs +22K in Q3). Meanwhile their FTTP and G.fast “ultrafast broadband” (100Mbps+) services reached 886,000 premises (up from 770K).

The latest Q4 2017 (calendar) results from Vodafone UK reveal that their fixed line broadband base grew by +39,000 in the quarter to total 316,000 (up from the +33K added in Q3), which in recent months has been boosted by some very aggressive FTTC price cutting.

The total number of world fixed broadband subscribers grew by 2.38% in Q3 2017 and now stands at 913.3 Million (up by nearly 70 million over the past year). Meanwhile the number of copper lines (ADSL etc.) fell by 6.3% over the past year and “full fibre” FTTH/P connections increased by 30.4%.

Completed on time. The Government has today confirmed that an estimated 95% of the United Kingdom can now access a 24Mbps+ capable fixed line “superfast broadband” network as a result of their national £1.7bn Broadband Delivery UK programme, but many gaps remain.

Customers of SSE (Southern Electric) should note that the ISP is changing the monthly price of all phone and broadband packages for non-existing SSE energy customers, which means that those without an energy plan will no longer pay a £5 surcharge on their monthly bill for the first 12 months.

UK internet provider BT has today launched a new range of “ultrafast fibre broadband” packages to support both the latest hybrid fibre G.fast and “full fibre” FTTP technologies, which offer download speeds of up to 152Mbps and 314Mbps. On top of that there’s a 100Mbps “speed guarantee.”
