Broadband ISP Zzoomm has reported that take-up of their multi-gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in one of their first locations to go live during early 2020, the Oxfordshire (England) town of Henley-on-Thames, has now hit 1 in 3 premises (roughly 33%) and growing.

Broadband ISP Plusnet has today discounted the price of their top two Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based packages on Openreach’s national network, which means that their 900Mbps tier is now just £43.99 per month on a 24-month term (£62.92 thereafter) and 500Mbps is £34.99 (£53.77 thereafter).

The MP for Haltemprice and Howden, David Davis, has called on ISP KCOM, MS3, Connexin and other alternative broadband network operators in East Yorkshire (England) to help resolve the “unsightly mess of unnecessary street furniture” (a reference to recent protests against poles) by fairly sharing access to existing ducts and poles.

But for now the provider’s local deployment is largely focused upon catering for businesses (they focus on homes in other locations).

Rural ISP Gigaclear, which covers 500,000 premises (430k Ready for Service) across 25 counties in England with their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, has praised ATS Group for helping to train their engineers in the South of England and getting them into the field far quicker than before.

Broadband provider FibreNest, which is the Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) operator for Persimmon Homes‘ new build UK housing developments, appears to have introduced a new router for customers who are just joining the service. The new unit replaces their previous Linksys Velop system, although we’re unsure whether it’s an improvement.

Openreach (BT) has announced that their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network now covers just over 1 million properties in Scotland, which is up from 949,000 in late August 2023 and 800,000 in mid-March 2023. The operator has also revealed the 20 locations with the best “ultrafast broadband coverage” on their network.

Nick Parbutt, the boss of network builder and UK gigabit broadband ISP toob, has revealed that the operator may have changed its strategy to focus more on growing customer take-up than on expanding their network coverage. But at this stage it’s unclear whether this will impact their existing coverage target.

Network provider Openreach (BT) has announced that an additional 5,000 homes in East Suffolk (England), covering an area in and around the town of Leiston, are due to gain access to their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network thanks to a new contract with the Sizewell C nuclear power development.

Over the year’s ISPreview has seen a few cases of wonky UK home broadband installations. The latest example comes courtesy of F&W Networks and supporting ISP Hey! Broadband, which post-install informed one of their customers that they “do not bury ducts, you will need to bury them yourself” (i.e. leaving fibre exposed across a front lawn).

Several broadband ISPs and network builders, including Brsk, FullFibre Ltd and IX Wireless, have this week become the latest in a long line of UK operators to face complaints from various different communities about their decision to deploy telecoms poles to run new full fibre and wireless networks.

The boss of UK broadband ISP Quickline, which is building a gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) network to 96 rural locations (55,000 premises) across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in England (deployment plan), has warned that isolated communities could “wither and die” if they are not connected to “reliable, high-speed broadband“.

Business and residential ISP Glide Group, which is busy expanding their full fibre broadband network across more of the UK (leased lines and FTTP etc.), has reported a surge in network demand with its data revealing a 25% increase in network volume compared to the same period last year.

Broadband ISP and network builder Wessex Internet has today announced that the first customers have gone live as part of their first £6m Project Gigabit contract with the UK government, which is deploying a new full fibre (FTTP) network to 7,100 uncommercial premises in rural parts of North Dorset (England).

The Government has this morning announced that the UK is to join the Global Coalition on Telecommunications (GCOT) and commit £70m to the Future Telecoms UKRI Technology Missions Fund (TMF) Programme. Both of which are intended to help research and develop the next generation of telecoms, broadband and 6G networks etc.
