A district councillor has claimed that CityFibre’s £50m project to deploy a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across the Norfolk city of Norwich, which began in September 2021 and was being supported by civil engineering contractor Telec Networks, could be at risk of a protracted suspension.

Network builder and UK gigabit broadband ISP toob has today announced that their long-planned £13m project to deploy a Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the Surrey (England) town of Woking has begun. The work is expected to result in 32,000 local homes and businesses gaining access to their network.

The perhaps tediously named telecoms infrastructure provider Altnets, which supplies things like optical fibre cable and active equipment to UK FTTP broadband builders, has announced that they’ve been shortlisted as a finalist for the “Growth Business of the Year” category in the Lloyds Bank British Business Excellence Awards 2023.

Openreach’s (BT) long road toward completely switching off their old copper-based Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) in December 2025 is set to hit a major milestone on 5th September 2023, when it places a UK wide “stop sell” on sales of new Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) and related broadband ISP products.

Infracapital-backed broadband ISP and AltNet WightFibre, which is deploying a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the Isle of Wight – just off the South Coast of Hampshire in England, has today issued their first coverage update in a long time and confirmed that they now cover 57,000 premises (up from 40,000 in July 2022).

Some 14,000 homes and businesses in the Kent (England) town of Sevenoaks will soon benefit after Netomnia, supported by UK ISP YouFibre, started a £4.2m project to deploy their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) broadband network in the area.

Belfast-based network operator and broadband ISP Fibrus, which is building a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) network across parts of Northern Ireland and England, has revealed that 44 out of their 110+ strong fleet of vehicles (37%) are now powered by electricity (up from 14 in Dec 2022).

Alternative network operator and UK ISP Grain has revealed that they intend to deploy their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across “more than” 10,000 homes in the Cheshire (England) town of Warrington, which reflects about one tenth of the town’s c.98,000 residential properties.

A few years ago we reported that Openreach (BT) had moved to accelerate and expand their rollout of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP technology into more challenging rural areas by installing “Subtended Headends” (SHE). The technology has now saved them £10m in build costs in the last year alone (Fiscal Year 22/23).

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has made it easier for UK broadband ISPs that want to migrate existing customers on slower copper-based ADSL, FTTC (VDSL2) and G.fast lines to faster full fibre (FTTP) ones, which they’ve done by introducing a new discount for their related “Proactive Upgrades” service.

Infracapital-backed UK broadband ISP Ogi, which is investing £200m to build a new full fibre (FTTP) network across 150,000 premises in South Wales by 2025, appears to have become one of the first (possibly THE first) alternative network providers to have a high street presence thanks to a new deal with the ‘Get Connection’ retail chain.
