Network builder CityFibre has today announced that they’re piloting enhanced “virtualisation capabilities” for business ISPs across their UK full fibre broadband and Ethernet network, which among other things includes the interesting addition of Universal Customer Premises Equipment (uCPE).

Ofcom has today opened a new monitoring programme, which will pay special attention to checking whether internet phone providers, such as those offered by dedicated Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and broadband providers (ISP), are ensuring the availability of access to emergency services (999) during power cuts.

Digital infrastructure provider and UK ISP Connexin, which is investing £80m to deploy a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across parts of Hull and East Yorkshire (here and here), has this morning announced the acquisition of local rival Wisper Broadband for an undisclosed sum.

Network builder FullFibre Limited has announced that the first customers can now connect to their new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based gigabit broadband ISP network in the Gloucestershire (England) town of Cinderford, which comes only a couple of months after Gigaclear began deploying in the same place.

UK ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP), which until now has historically only sold fixed broadband and phone services via Openreach’s national network, has today become the latest internet provider to announced that they’ll soon be launching a range of ultrafast and gigabit speed packages via CityFibre’s full fibre network.

The first broadband customers on ISP BeFibre‘s new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which is being built across parts of the UK by network operator Digital Infrastructure, have today gone live in the Essex (England) town of Brentwood – one of their original build locations.

A new scheme – the Dryden project – has been started in one of Sheffield’s most disadvantaged areas, which will see partners work together to help tackle digital poverty by connecting up 360 homes on a council estate in Southey Green to FTTP broadband – using this as a platform to help train new engineers from the local community.

UK ISP BT has updated their existing range of discounts, not least by boosting the value on some of their included reward vouchers (preloaded MasterCards) and also shaving an extra pound or two off the existing offer prices for their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) packages. Some FTTP plans also include a 1-month free speed boost.

The latest independent biannual summary of UK broadband coverage for H1 2022 has estimated that “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP networks have boosted their reach to 37.61% of premises (up from 30.23% in H2 2021) and 69.24% are within reach of “gigabit” speeds (up from 65.22%). But the results vary around England, Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland.

The North Somerset Magistrates Court has found broadband ISP and UK network builder Jurassic Fibre guilty of three offences related to their street works, which stems from their roll-out of a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to 500,000 premises (30 towns and villages) in South West England by 2025.

Network builder Netomnia – supported by UK ISP YouFibre – has today announced that 20,000 premises in the North Ayrshire (Scotland) town of Irvine will be the next to benefit from their rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which is expected to cost the operator £6m.

City-focused gigabit broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which is building a new “full fibre” (FTTP/B) network to 2 million UK homes by the end of 2023 (825,000 completed so far), has today launched a new “Big Bang Sale” that knocks a few extra pounds off their previous monthly prices for new customers on 24-month terms.

The state aid supported Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) project in England has today issued another update on the full fibre rollout progress of their £6m Fibre Extension Programme (FEP) contract with Openreach (BT), which was originally due to complete by the end of 2021 but is still ongoing.

Residents in the Camberley and Frimley areas of Surrey have complained of an “eyesore” and raised other concerns after UK ISP Toob began deploying new telegraph polesin the area, which are being used to serve local premises with their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband network.

Telecoms giant BT has posted a new update on their current network plans and performance, which among other things reveals that data and internet traffic over their fixed network (broadband and Ethernet) recently hit a new peak of 28Tbps (Terabits per second) during their busiest hour (up from 25Tbps at the end of 2021).
