It’s been a long time coming but Sky UK (Sky Broadband, Sky TV etc.) has today confirmed that customers of their Sky Q Pay TV platform can now access Amazon’s Prime Video app on their set-top-boxes. At the same time Sky’s sibling NOW TV streaming service will become available on selected Amazon Fire TV devices.

London-centric broadband ISP CommunityFibre, which is busy deploying their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across large apartment buildings in the UK’s capital city, has today concluded an agreement to launch a new branded “Community Fibre TV” service using the Netgem TV (IPTV) platform.

The UK communications and media regulator, Ofcom, has launched a new investigation into Sky (Sky Broadband) over their apparent refusal to issue end-of-contract notifications to Pay TV customers. At issue is whether or not Sky’s standalone Pay TV services fall within the definition of an “electronic communications service“.

Sky’s sibling UK ISP and video streaming service, NOW TV (NOW Broadband), is set to end their partnership with Tesco, which began last August (here) and enabled existing Clubcard holders to convert their vouchers into credit for triple the value when used with the service (e.g. £5 worth of vouches becomes £15).

Customers of Sky TV (Sky Broadband) may be pleased to learn that, as expected, the provider is about to rollout 40+ movies with support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality to their Sky Q platform in time for Christmas 2020, which will be available via their Sky Cinema channel(s).

Rural focused full fibre broadband ISP Gigaclear has today, for the first time, entered into a “special partnership” with Sky TV (Comcast) that will enable them to bundle their 300Mbps ultrafast internet access product with the Sky Ultimate TV (inc. Broadband ISP BT (EE) appears to have publicly hinted that they are developing their first WiFi equipped set-top-box (STB) for pay TV customers, which seems set to be followed by “multi-room capability” and plans for a “seamless TV” experience – both in and out of the home (i.e. via fixed line and mobile broadband).

Broadband ISP and TV provider Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has just published their latest Q3 2020 results, which saw their UK network coverage grow to reach another 125,000 UK premises and their broadband base add +47,000 new customers (up from +39.2k in the previous quarter) to total 5,365,400.

Low cost broadband ISP TalkTalk has confirmed that they’ve today stopped selling paid TV Boosts (premium channel packs) and the internet provider intends to begin “phasing out” the boosts completely in 2021. Instead the company will be doubling down on their integration with the NOW TV video streaming platform from Sky.

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today expanded their existing Sky Q TV platform support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality by enabling it on the popular Netflix video streaming service. Admittedly if you have a modern internet-connected HDR TV then you can probably already get this via the streaming giants own app.

UK ISP BT has announced that they’ve extended their current partnership with the BritBox video streaming service, which among other things means that the provider’s new and existing broadband and TV customers will now also benefit from a free 6-months subscription to the platform.

Customers of Vodafone UK’s contract-free mobile operator “youth brand” – VOXI – will soon to able to take their new 4G and 5G based “Endless Video” plans, which provides unlimited data (mobile broadband) to popular streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, My5, TVPlayer and UKTV Play.

UK ISP BT is sending out invites for a new trial, which will see them “teaming up” with EE to offer a special discount when a customer takes both a BT Broadband and EE Mobile service. Normally both providers, despite being part of the same group, would treat their customers as being separate but that may soon change.
