Mobile operator EE has announced that their “Stay Connected” feature, which effectively enables unlimited mobile broadband use on even 4G or 5G Pay Monthly plans with capped data allowances, has been extended to work with ‘Essential’ and ‘Smart’ plans on tablets, laptops and mobile WiFi router devices, as well as data SIMs.

Mobile network operator EE (BT) has announced that they will launch a new range of Pay As You Go (PAYG) mobile packs tomorrow, which will start from just £5 (currently £10) and give you more calling minutes and a bigger 4G data allowance (mobile broadband) than the standard packs.

The Broadband Stakeholder Group, which is a think-tank that advises the UK Government, has today published new research from Analysys Mason that examines some of the commercial and technical practicalities of providing faster broadband coverage to areas in the UK that are hardest to reach.

Customers of mobile operator EE (BT) can now add Netflix’s video streaming service as an inclusive benefit on their “Smart” plans. The provider has also made their “Full Works” plan available on Android devices (previously it was only for iPhones), allowing users to choose Netflix, Apple Music and BT Sport plus “full speed unlimited data.”

Well, that was one of the fastest U-turns in history. Mobile operator Vodafone UK, which in June 2021 (here) told ISPreview.co.uk they had “no current plans to change our approach to roaming in the EU” (this after rival EE reintroduced roaming charges), has now decided to introduce such charges after all.

The North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA), which represents Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland in England, recently announced that they will put £7 million toward a new 5G and Future Connectivity Fund, which is largely intended to help boost mobile and “full fibre” broadband connectivity in rural areas.

Mobile operator and ISP Vodafone has today enhanced their existing range of home fixed line “Pro Broadband” (FTTC / FTTP) packages by integrating Amazon’s Alexa AI personal voice assistant into their bundled “Super Wi-Fi Plus” (mesh network) booster device, which has also been upgraded to support Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax).

Mobile network operator EE (BT) has launched a new range of contract free ‘Connected Data SIM‘ packs for their 4G using Pay As You Go (PAYG) customers, which are specifically designed to help fuel connected tablets, laptops or other Mobile Broadband devices (e.g. USB Wi-Fi routers / dongles).

Mobile benchmarking firm RootMetrics will today publish a new biannual H1 2021 report into the performance of 5G (mobile broadband) networks in the United Kingdom, which praises EE (BT) for their “consistent broad availability … fast speeds and reliability.”

Ookla, which operates the popular Speedtest.net service, has just published a new Q1-Q2 2021 (H1) study of 5G mobile broadband performance from Three UK, EE, Vodafone and O2 (VMO2), which found that Three delivered the fastest average (median) download speeds of 231.07Mbps. But Vodafone wins on uploads (19.69Mbps).

Three UK has today revealed that their new 5G (mobile broadband) network has just gone live in another 110 locations across the United Kingdom (300 in total), which they claim has pushed their “outdoor population coverage” (not geographic) to 29%. The current rollout plan aims to reach 2,500 new sites over the next few years.

The High Court has blocked a highly questionable crowd-funded legal challenge by the Action Against 5G campaign, which had been attempting to disrupt the rollout of ultrafast 5G (mobile broadband) services over fears that “radio-frequency radiation from masts and wireless devices puts health and life at risk.“

British satellite telecommunications company Inmarsat has today announced their future communications network, ORCHESTRA, which aims to “seamlessly integrate” their existing fleet of geosynchronous (GEO) platforms with a constellation of up to 175 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and terrestrial 5G (mobile broadband) connectivity.

The BT Group has today reported their latest Q1 2021/22 results, which among other things reports that Openreach’s 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network now covers 5.16 million UK premises (up from 4.6m last quarter) and 860,000 of BT’s retail ISP customers have taken the service.

A complaint by rival mobile operator EE (BT) has prompted the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to ban several of Vodafone’s adverts after they “misleadingly” claimed to be the “UK’s Best Network” or “UK’s best mobile data network” for 4G and 5G services (mobile broadband).

Mobile operator Three UK, supported by research from CCS Insight, has today called on the Government not to overlook the benefits of “5G WiFi” in their plan to rollout gigabit-capable broadband across the country. Apparently, 5G based Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) could do it “faster and for half the cost of fixed lines.”
