Openreach UK Raise Copper Line Prices to Fuel Full Fibre Rollout

As expected (or feared) Openreach (BT) has today announced a series of wholesale price increases for UK ISPs that use certain legacy copper line broadband, FTTC (VDSL2, G.fast, SOGEA) and phone products, which are intended to help the operator to afford their £12bn roll-out of 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology.

Sky UK TV Update Adds New Voice Features to Sky Q Boxes

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today announced that they’ve begun to roll-out a new firmware update for their Sky Q TV boxes and service, which adds a bunch of new voice features (e.g. Voice Guidance). On top of that their Sky Go app has gained new ‘Continue Watching‘, ‘Sky Channels‘ and ‘Browse by Category‘ rails to make it easier to use.

Sky UK Launches Broadband ISP Sky Connect for Businesses

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today launched a new UK ISP sibling that is being aimed specifically at small businesses – called ‘Sky Connect‘, although at launch they’ll only be offering packages based off “superfast broadband” Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) technology from Openreach. But FTTP will follow “later this year“.

Zen Internet Named Best UK ISP in Which? 2021 Broadband Survey

Consumer magazine Which? has today published the results from their latest annual 2021 reader survey of broadband ISP satisfaction, which saw Zen Internet come top with a reduced customer satisfaction score of 70% (down from 84%) in an otherwise problematic year, where 69% of respondents suffered connectivity problems.

Sky’s Sibling NOW TV and Broadband Rebrands to Just.. NOW

Sky’s sibling UK ISP and TV video streaming service, NOW TV (NOW Broadband), will this week be rebranded as just “NOW” (i.e. the “TV” part has been dropped) in order to remove unnecessary detail in favour of “brilliant simplicity … for those who love and live for the best entertainment.” Ok then.

Cityfibre Name 285 UK Areas for GBP4bn Gigabit Broadband Rollout UPDATE

Alternative network builder CityFibre has today confirmed the full list of 285 UK cities, towns and villages where they plan to deploy their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTHP) broadband platform, which will work alongside ISPs like Vodafone and TalkTalk to cover 8 million homes and businesses. Rural areas will also benefit.

Uswitch 2021 Awards Name the Best UK Mobile Operators

The winners of the annual Uswitch.com Mobile Awards 2021 have today been unveiled, which among other categories saw smaller operators like giffgaff scooping “Network of the Year,” while Asda Mobile were hailed as the “Best Network for Customer Service” and Smarty took home the win for “Best Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) Network.”

ASA UK Ban Sky Broadband TV Ad After BT Complaint on Pricing

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a TV advert for one of ISP Sky Broadband’s bundles with their Pay TV service, which featured the popular computer-animated Minions characters from Universal Pictures, after rival provider BT complained that the price offer was “misleading.“
