The change to Daylight Saving Time (DST) on Sunday, which saw clocks go back by 1 hour, has given some customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband – specifically a few of those with a VoIP based Sky Talk service and the SR203/204 (Sky Hub) router, a reprieve from an otherwise on-going timing bug.

Several UK ISPs including Shell Energy, Sky Broadband and TalkTalk are today reportedly all being named as the “remaining bidders” for the Post Office’s telecoms division, specially its base of around 500,000 broadband and phone customers – said to be valued at around £100m.

Broadband ISP and TV provider Sky (Sky Broadband) has today announced that they are to start opening retail shops across the United Kingdom, with the first being in Liverpool on 26th October 2020. This will be the first time all of their products have been under one roof.

Over the past week we’ve noted that Sky Broadband appears to have started making their new Openreach Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based “Superfast” (59Mbps) and “Ultrafast” (145Mbps) broadband package available to existing customers, after initially only appearing to launch it for new subscribers.

Some of Sky Broadband’s UK ISP customers, mostly those with one of their latest Sky Hub routers (SR203), are being faced with an intermittent bug that results in the WiFi connection giving an “access point temporarily full” message and disrupting local connectivity, even though the router is well below its device limit.

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today expanded their existing Sky Q TV platform support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality by enabling it on the popular Netflix video streaming service. Admittedly if you have a modern internet-connected HDR TV then you can probably already get this via the streaming giants own app.

Customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband and Sky TV may like to know that the operator has become an official partner for the online video game ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘, which means they’ll get free early access, via the Sky VIP app, to the beta test a month before its release and without having to pre-order.

UK ISP Sky Broadband has reduced the price of their optional “Boost” add-on from £5 to £2 per month for new customers who take one of their “Superfast” (FTTC) or “Ultrafast” (G.fast / FTTP) based broadband packages between now and 24th September 2020 (this doesn’t extend to their ‘Essential’ package).

UK ISP Sky Broadband has once again discounted the price of their “Superfast Fibre” (average download of 59Mbps) package to just £25 per month for the first 18 months of service (£32 thereafter) – available via FTTC or FTTP. On top of that they’ve also reduced the one-off setup fee to £9.95.

Ofcom has published their latest Q1 2020 consumer complaints report, which reveals that UK ISP Vodafone attracted the most gripes for broadband, while TalkTalk were the worst for landline phone and BT did the same for Pay TV. Meanwhile Vodafone, Three UK, BT and Virgin Media all tied the bottom spot for mobile.

UK ISP Sky Broadband appears to have quietly extended the availability of their new 145Mbps (28Mbps upload) capable and Openreach based Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) “Ultrafast” broadband package, which over the past few days has finally become available to order online and with different pricing.

Ofcom UK has published their 2020 survey of broadband and mobile service quality, call waiting times, complaints and install times among the largest ISPs and mobile operators. Overall TalkTalk attracted the lowest satisfaction for home broadband (78%) again, while Three UK were the same for mobile (89%).

The UK Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has banned two adverts for Sky’s (Sky Broadband) TV and Netflix bundles, which promoted a £20 or £25 one-off setup fee to new customers but failed to make sufficiently clear that existing customers would have to pay an upfront fee of “up to £219“.

A recent update to Sky Broadband’s latest SR203/204 Sky Hub wireless router appears to have caused a bug for the ISP’s VoIP using customers, which results in a 1 hour time difference on DECT handsets that can sometimes prevent calls from reaching the customer. But a fix is coming, even if we don’t know when.

The Group CEO of Sky (Sky Broadband), Jeremy Darroch, has quietly revealed to Comcast’s investors that their ISP division will debut “our broadband product to businesses” in the United Kingdom “later this year“, which will be followed by a full launch in 2021.

Industry regulator Ofcom has today secured new commitments from UK ISPs EE, Plusnet and Sky Broadband to reduce prices automatically for “vulnerable customers” who are out of contract, which mirrors a similar move agreed last year with BT, TalkTalk and Virgin Media. Savings of £270m are forecast.
