Customers of Sky (Sky TV and Sky Broadband) may be pleased to learn that the Comcast owned broadcaster and ISP intends to hire more engineering, customer support and TV content creator staff in 2020, which could see their headcount increase again by around 3,000 jobs (making for a total of over 30,000 employees).

It’s that time of the year again when we take a look back to see how video streaming speeds by different broadband ISPs have changed for UK users of Netflix’s popular internet movie and TV service, which this year adds the impact from Vodafone’s fixed line service and oddly splits TalkTalk’s “fibre” and “DSL” connections.

Customers of Sky’s (Comcast / Sky Broadband) TV service will be displeased to learn that they may now have to wait until “late” 2020 “at the earliest” before the company finally gets around to adding High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology to Sky Q, which enables the video to contain even more colour and vibrancy.

Customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband, Sky Mobile and Sky TV are being offered a raft of freebies for Christmas this year, including movies, TV sport, unlimited mobile data and free calls to any landline or mobile number – in any country – from a Sky Talk line (excludes calls to certain types of chargeable numbers) among other gifts.

The latest Q2 2019 consumer complaints report from Ofcom has confirmed that UK ISP Vodafone attracted the most moans for fixed line broadband, while Plusnet were the worst for landline phone and Virgin Media did the same for both Mobile and Pay TV. On the flip side Sky Broadband generated the fewest gripes.

Customers of Sky Broadband (Comcast) are this morning reporting sporadic problems with intermittent connectivity, which doesn’t appear to affect everybody but may be preventing some customers from loading certain websites or connecting to certain online servers.

ISP Sky Broadband (Comcast) appears to be offering their Anytime UK calls add-on at no extra cost (usually +£10 extra per month) for the first 18 months of service, when new customers take out one of their ADSL (11Mbps), FTTC (59Mbps) or G.fast (145Mbps) based broadband and phone bundles (with or without TV).

Good news for customers of Sky Broadband, specifically those who previously liked to use their own third-party Domain Name System (DNS) settings before the UK ISP broke that ability when they introduced early support for the Sky Buddy App in April 2019 (here). You’ll soon be able to use third-party DNS servers again!

Sky (Sky Broadband) and the BBC have signed a new content and technology partnership, which among other things will today finally see the BBC’s iPlayer (IPTV) video on demand app and connected red-button service launch on their Sky Q TV platform. Previously it was possible on Sky to get BBC VoD content but not via iPlayer.

Customers of UK ISP Sky Broadband and Sky TV (Comcast) will be pleased to learn that the internet and media giant intends to create 1,000 new jobs in the United Kingdom, which includes 500 engineers. The rest will be used to boost customer support staff via a new call centre in Leeds.

UK ISP Sky Broadband (Comcast) has today officially made their new G.fast powered Ultrafast 1 (145Mbps) broadband and VoIP (SOGEA) phone packages available for both new and existing customers to order. Prices start from £39 per month and there’s a £39.95 one-off setup fee (we think it’s a free upgrade for existing customers).

UK ISP Sky Broadband is this week expected to put their new range of G.fast based “ultrafast broadband” packages live for everybody, which follows an initial soft launch in August (here). The bad news is that those waiting for FTTP (Openreach) to be supported may now have to wait until Q1 2020.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has concluded their review of broadband ISP pricing and agreed industry changes that are designed to protect “vulnerable” consumers (e.g. pensioners) from “loyalty penalties,” which references how loyal customers (those who don’t switch or renegotiate) often end up paying more.

UK ISP Sky Broadband (Comcast) has made no secret of their desire to work with “full fibre” (FTTH) alternative network (altnet) providers (here) and, in keeping with that, they’ve today agreed a new wholesale access deal with the Brookfield Utilities UK Group (GTC / OFNL), which builds fibre optic networks to UK new build homes.
