Budget UK ISP TalkTalk has today announced that their new CityFibre and Openreach based ‘Future Fibre‘ packages, which offer average top speeds of up to 506Mbps via Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology, have now become available to homes in the Suffolk (England) town of Ipswich.

A new blanket council wayleave agreement, which has been approved by social housing provider Wolverhampton Homes and CityFibre, looks set to see the latter extend their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network to cover more than 22,700 extra homes in the West Midland’s (England) city.

Openreach (BT) has reportedly restarted talks with a number of big UK broadband ISPs (e.g. TalkTalk, Vodafone) over the development of discounted long-term wholesale agreements for their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) service, which were paused last year after rivals like Virgin Media raised competition concerns.

The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has this afternoon praised broadband ISPs for helping to create more than 22,000 new jobs over the past year as “forecasts for gigabit rollout are revised further upwards,” which is an interesting statement coming so soon after the Government’s decision to downgrade their own coverage target.

Some of TalkTalk’s UK home broadband ISP customers have suddenly found themselves unable to access lots of different websites (e.g. social media sites, the National Lottery and many more) after the internet provider’s network-level HomeSafe filter for “blocking inappropriate content” suddenly enabled itself, and wouldn’t disable.

As expected (or feared) Openreach (BT) has today announced a series of wholesale price increases for UK ISPs that use certain legacy copper line broadband, FTTC (VDSL2, G.fast, SOGEA) and phone products, which are intended to help the operator to afford their £12bn roll-out of 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology.

Consumer magazine Which? has today published the results from their latest annual 2021 reader survey of broadband ISP satisfaction, which saw Zen Internet come top with a reduced customer satisfaction score of 70% (down from 84%) in an otherwise problematic year, where 69% of respondents suffered connectivity problems.

CityFibre UK has reached a new partnership with landlord and housing developer Thirteen Group, which thanks to a blanket wayleave agreement will ensure that 12,500 of their customers in Middlesbrough (North Yorkshire, England) can gain access to a 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network.

Budget conscious broadband ISP TalkTalk has announced that their CityFibre based Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) packages have just been made available to homes in the Adur and Worthing area (West Sussex), which follows a similar announcement from rival Zen Internet in January 2021.

One of TalkTalk’s UK broadband ISP customers, who asked to remain anonymous, has criticised the provider for being “staggeringly uninterested” after he reported a security flaw, which persisted for the best part of a week and enabled him to see the private personal account details of a different subscriber.

Alternative network builder CityFibre has today confirmed the full list of 285 UK cities, towns and villages where they plan to deploy their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTHP) broadband platform, which will work alongside ISPs like Vodafone and TalkTalk to cover 8 million homes and businesses. Rural areas will also benefit.

CityFibre UK has today issued some important progress updates on their plans to deploy a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover premises (homes and businesses) across the city of Glasgow (Scotland), and the towns of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire and Blackpool in Lancashire (England).

CityFibre has announced that they will invest an additional £1.5m to boost the coverage of their original £30m project in the Cambridgeshire city of Peterborough, which was one of their first deployments of a 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network with UK ISP partner Vodafone (plus TalkTalk).

UK ISP TalkTalk appears to have kicked off the week by revealing that some of their home broadband and phone packages will see price rises from April 2021. After that – from April next year – the monthly charges will be hiked by the rate of inflation plus 3.7% – mirroring similar moves by BT and some other operators.

Low cost UK broadband ISP TalkTalk, which last year appeared to be taking a step back from their existing YouView (IPTV) based Pay TV products (here), appears to have quietly launched a new promotion that bundles their “fibre broadband” plans with a Freesat 500GB Recordable 4K TV Box (satellite dish and cabling not included).

TalkTalk has today shared a preview from the latest volume (2) of their new ‘Internet Insights‘ report with us, which is a quarterly analysis of the ISP’s network traffic and usage trends. For example, it notes that UK internet usage rose nationally by 40% during 2020, driven by streaming, online gaming and working from home.

UK ISP TalkTalk has announced that it will create six-month work placements for more than 50 young people in the North West, which forms part of the Government’s (Department for Work and Pensions) wider Kickstart Scheme – this provides funding to help create new job placements for 16 to 24-year-olds on Universal Credit.
