As expected Transport for London (TfL) has today announced that their planned trial with O2, Vodafone, Three UK and EE (BT) of a new 4G mobile (mobile broadband) network along the Jubilee Line (platforms and tube trains in tunnels) – between Canning Town and Westminster stations – will go live tomorrow.

Shoppers enjoying the Portobello Road Market, which is a street in the Notting Hill district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in west London, may like to know that the local authority and Insmartcities have just switched-on a new free WiFi wireless internet network in the area and “at no cost to the taxpayer.”

The UK telecoms regulator has today finalised their rules for this year’s forthcoming auction of the 700MHz and 3.6-3.8GHz radio spectrum bands, which hopes to boost new 5G mobile network coverage and mobile broadband speeds further into the Gigabit-capable (1000Mbps+) territory.

Some 100 homes in the tiny rural village of Dadford in Buckinghamshire (England) have finally gained access to “superfast broadband” speeds of 30-50Mbps, which occurred after UK ISP Voneus were able to extend their Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network across the community, with a little help from the local School.

A new study from Uswitch.com claims to have revealed the fastest and slowest stations and train lines on the London Underground for wireless broadband (WiFi) speed. The fastest station was found to be Edgware Road (49.7Mbps), while the slowest was Westminster (0.9Mbps).

Sixty homes in the tiny rural Monmouthshire (Wales) village of Llanddewi Rhydderch have finally gone live on a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which has been installed by Broadway Partners (UK ISP Broadway Broadband) and is intended to complement their existing Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) trial.

The organisation responsible for maintaining 20,000 miles of railway (train tracks etc.), Network Rail, has confirmed that one of their free WiFi hotspot provider’s – C3UK – has suffered a personal data breach that leaked the email addresses and travel details of about 10,000 people online.

A team of researchers working out of the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh have developed a new type of Hybrid Flat Panel Antenna (FPA), which could deliver fast on-board WiFi internet connectivity for trains by harnessing a Satellite broadband connection instead of a mobile (4G / 5G) network for capacity.

Now parent operator Liberty Global has signed a new deal that seeks to expand the service to all customers.

The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is today reportedly gearing up to announce a fresh round of new capital investment in major infrastructure projects (HS2 etc.), which is expected to include a pot of £40 million to support pilots of superfast 5G based wireless (mobile) broadband in rural areas.
