After deploying in London and Leeds, BT has today announced the first roll-out of 12 InLinkUK smart kiosks in Glasgow (Scotland), which claim to offer “ultrafast” 1Gbps capable free public WiFi, free UK phone calls, USB device charging and a range of other digital services to help people in the vicinity.

The UK Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (UKWISPA), which is the official trade body for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband providers, has called on Ofcom to “modernise the way it allocates spectrum resources” because they claim that the current approach of national auctions is “no longer fit for purpose“.

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) UK ISP Connexin appears to be in the build out phase of an upgrade to their Bradford business network, which is planned to cover the entire West Yorkshire city and should be able to deliver gigabit speeds (full duplex) using millimetre wave (mmWave) spectrum.

The Mayor of London UK, Sadiq Khan, has published a new roadmap that aims to build the “smartest city in the world” and to improve its digital connectivity. The measures will grow public WiFi hotspots, support 5G Mobile networks and make “full fibre” (FTTH/P) ultrafast broadband available to all new build homes.
