Fiber-to-the-x (replace x with Home, Premises or Cabinet etc.) is a future broadband technology designed to partly or completely replace existing copper wired phones lines with fibre optic or coaxial cables and deliver an Ethernet style super-speed broadband Internet connection to homes and businesses. It is capable of delivering download speeds of up to 100Mbps and faster in the future.

FTTH can also be known as FTTx, with the 'x' being replaced by 'Home' ( FTTH ), 'Business' ( FTTB ), 'Premises' ( FTTP ) or 'Cabinet (Curb)' ( FTTC ) etc. Some versions, such as 'Cabinet', would only deliver the fibre optic cables to your local street cabinet and not your house. It's likely that FTTC would need to be paired with a DSL (VDSL2) technology to complete the exchange-to-home link at anything up to 45Mbps.
