By: MarkJ - 14 November, 2007 (1:54 PM)

The Welsh Deputy First Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, has announced development of a £30m fibre optic broadband link ("FibreSpeed") between more than a dozen strategic business parks in Northern Wales.

It's understood that The Assembly Government initiative will be partially funded from European Structural Funds and the networks supplier, GEO. Should the project prove successful then additional parks may be connected, although initially only the following will be covered:

* Parc Cybi on Anglesey.
* Parc Menai (inc. CAST Technium)
* Parc Bryn Cegin
* Victoria Dock
* Caernarfon
* Llandudno Junction
* Parc Caer Seion
* St Asaph Business Park (inc. OPTIC Technium)
* St David’s Park
* Deeside Industrial Park
* Hawarden Business Park
* Warren Hall
* Wrexham Industrial Estate
* Wrexham Technology Park

It's hoped that the resulting improvement in productivity will ultimately pay for itself and help to push bandwidth prices down.
