ISP AOL has announced its intention to cut 2,000 jobs from its worldwide workforce, 1,200 of which will come from the USA. America Online has been gradually moving away from its old ISP business to focus on content.

Here in the UK it recently sold its UK Internet access customers onto The Carphone Warehouse. It is not yet known how many, if any, jobs from the providers UK division will get the sack.

Meanwhile AOL intends to start giving away AOL.com e-mail accounts, software and other features once reserved for paying subscribers to boost traffic to its content sites.
