Virgin Media has announced a 10Mbps (512Kbps upstream) trial for customers living in Preston, Wigan and Blackpool next week. Users of the ISP's "L" package will find their 4Mbps service automatically upgraded as part of the test.

The trial itself is expected to last several weeks, during which time Virgin will be looking for feedback from customers. This will not affect the providers ADSL users.
