Oxford To Central London Bus Route Goes Wi-Fi
By: MarkJ - 21 April, 2007 (8:59 AM)

People travelling on the “Oxford Tube”, a key bus rout between Oxford and central London, will now have access to FREE broadband wireless (Wi-Fi) speeds of up to 1.4Mbps while in transit.

Stagecoach Group, which manages the project and runs a 25 strong fleet of vehicles over the rout, built the network in collaboration with Moovera (Wi-Fi equipment) and Vodafone UK’s 3G mobile phone network.

Over an initial trial period of 3 months roughly 7,000 people have accessed the service more than 32,000 times. Surfers typically spent an average of 41 minutes online, helping to prove demand. Some travellers even switched from a competing railway line in order to have FREE Wi-Fi access on the move.
