The latest research from YouGov has revealed that one in every eight Mobile Broadband users have either replaced their existing land-line ISP with the service or adopted it in place of a land-line alternative.

Interestingly 5% of those currently using both a land-line broadband ISP and a Mobile Broadband service said they intended to drop their land-line service within the next year. However, all that glistens is not gold for Mobile Broadband operators.

The research found that over 25% of existing Mobile Broadband subscribers were contemplating the cancellation of their contract, sighting woeful performance (slow speeds) and high costs as being among their primary concerns:


It should also be noted that 64% of Mobile Broadband adopters brought the service as an addition to their existing land-line ISP. Furthermore, 4% had the service provided by their business and 3% brought it exclusively for remote working outside of the office.

So, for now at least, Mobile Broadband is not quite yet a true land-line Internet access replacement, although its benefits are growing and it also has the capacity to reach into rural areas where fixed services often cannot.

In related news, BT has found that 45% of its 'Broadband Anywhere ToGo' smartphone users have browsed the mobile web for goods or services from their devices.
