Mobile phone operator
Three (3) is gearing up to introduce a new range of
Mobile Broadband and "free" laptop computer bundles next month. Rumours also indicate that Vodafone and
Orange will follow suit later in the year.
Three's initial bundles will all be based off a lengthy 24-month contract period, with prices starting at £30 per month and including a data usage allowance of 5 GigaBytes' (GB).
The Laptops themselves are expected to include several models with varying specs, including Hewlett Packard's Pavilion DV6000. We've managed to Google some rough specs, although these may not match the final ones:
• 15.4″ widescreen with HP BrightView
• NVIDIA nForce Go 430 chipset - NVIDIA GeForce Go 7200 - NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics with AMD processors
• Integrated wireless support for 802.11 b/g (configurable)
• Wireless LAN
• Bluetooth
• 3 x USB 2.0 ports on select models
• ExpressCard/54 slot
• DDR II SDRAM
• 60 GB plus more
• 1 x IEEE1394 / FireWire port
• 5-in-1 media card
• Integrated Altec Lansing stereo speakers
• Two omni-directional microphones (integrated camera)
• Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2 - Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2
• Dual stereo headphone jacks
• HP Pavilion WebCam
Laptop and
Mobile Broadband bundles have become quite popular because they allow operators to lock customers in to lengthy contracts, though critics often suggest that it can sometimes be better to buy the Laptops separately and ignore such bundles. More @
