Anti-Virus firm Sophos has revealed the top twelve spam-relaying countries for the second quarter of 2008, which puts the UK in 9th place accounting for 3.2% of all junk e-mail. The USA continues to top the chart with 14.9%, followed closely by Russia on 7.5%.
By June 2008 the level of spam had risen to 96.5% of all business email. Having risen from a figure of 92.3% in the first three months of the year, corporations are now facing the fact that only one in 28 emails is legitimate:
1. United States - 14.9%
2. Russia - 7.5%
3. Turkey - 6.8%
4. China (incl HK) - 5.6%
5. Brazil - 4.5%
6. Poland - 3.6%
7. Italy - 3.6%
8. South Korea - 3.5%
9. United Kingdom - 3.2%
10. Spain - 3.2%
11. Germany - 3.0%
12. Argentina - 2.9%
Others - 37.7%
It's worth comparing these statistics to the same report last year, which can be viewed
here. This shows that the UK has increased its SPAM contribution from 2.8% last year to 3.2% now, while the USA has reduced its relaying output from 19.6% to 14.9%! In fact quite a few counties, including China, have seen a reduction. Sadly Russia appears to be making up for the reductions by going from 3.1% to 7.5%.
